Lanzarote The Holiday Island

Enjoy Lanzarote – The Holiday Island As a holiday destination, Lanzarote has been offering its hospitality to visitors for over forty years. Yet the island, which is part of the Canarian archipelago, remains a relatively unspoilt corner of Europe, even whilst it receives an annual average of over a million holidaymakers. Thanks to the abundance of cheap flights to Lanzarote from countries such as the UK. Its ability to cope with a large number of temporary guests is such that even during peak holiday times, peace and quiet can still be found.

This is partly due to the vast majority of visitors choosing to stay in one of the three main resorts. Which are arrayed along the eastern and southern coastlines and benefit from the best micro-climates to be found here. But it is also the result of the island’s geography, where a large part of the interior is covered by volcanic landscapes or agricultural activity, such as wine production. Lanzarote is the place where Malvasia wine is created – the sweet white wine that was much favoured by Shakespeare and the Elizabethan court. That activity is still much in evidence today, in the La Geria region. Which makes an unusual and scenic destination for visitors who decide to explore the less populous areas of the island.

Along with the national park that has been created out of the region that was most affected by the six year volcanic eruptions between 1730-36. The Timanfaya National Park is the number one tourist attraction, where travellers can get a close up view of the fissures and craters formed by the world’s longest period of volcanic activity. And where they can eat a meal cooked over the ground’s geothermal heat – as the huge grill at El Diablo restaurant harnesses the natural power beneath the earth’s crust.

This innovative use of an area that was devastated by the events of the eighteenth century was down to the intelligent solutions found by one man, César Manrique. As a Lanzaroteño he had a passionate attachment to the island of his birth. And as an influential artist and architect he was able to propose and implement some of the most unusual ideas to form seven tourist attractions. Car hire in Lanzarote is affordable too – making it easy to get out and explore the island´s unique attractions. As a result, Lanzarote has a unique package to offer holidaymakers. A benign climate all year round, lovely sandy beaches, striking countryside and a range of attractions that delight and amaze visitors from around the world. Which present the island’s history, culture and natural beauty in ways that only an artist could imagine.
